If there’s one unexpected thing that unites us here in San Jose — it’s the fact that we all have *very strong* opinions about our local highways, and the longer you’ve lived here, the more opinions you’re likely to have given how much they’ve changed over the years. 🛣️ |
Let's talk highways. | Post by Gary Singh |
For example, this post made by Metro Silicon Valley reporter Gary Singh revealed that in the late-1960s, there was a stretch where 17 actually doubled-up with 280 + 680. To make things more confusing, Old Oakland Road used to be 17 when 17 used to be 238 — our minds are bending trying to keep that one straight.
Today we put it to you — what are your opinions on our local highways system? Do you have a favorite or least favorite highway? What exits do you avoid with a passion? What are your tricks to avoiding traffic? 🚗
Send us your insider San Jose opinion + you could be featured in a future newsletter. | |

Editor's pick: I consider myself a proud Trekkie — so when Nichelle Nichols (Uhura from “Star Trek”) attended the first SiliCon back in 2016, I jumped at the chance to meet her. Her work breaking barriers on television + in NASA was a great inspiration to me, so her passing last week hit me hard. |
